The tools and the information on this website are not legal advice, and they aren't compliance, security or other professional advice either. They are general in nature. They can't tell you whether a document may be shared, what a law or policy requires, or whether a file is safe for a particular purpose. If you handle legal, medical, financial or other regulated documents, check the rules that apply to you or ask a qualified professional.
The tools are provided as is
The tools are provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We work hard to make them accurate and reliable, and each cleaning tool re-checks the copy it creates, but PDF files vary enormously and we can't guarantee that every file will be processed correctly, or that the site will always be available or free of errors.
Results cover only what each tool checks
- Each tool looks for, and removes, only the kinds of information described on its own page. “Nothing found” means that tool found nothing of those kinds, not that the document holds no other information.
- The visible text and images on the pages, the file name and the surrounding context can still identify people or reveal information, even after cleaning.
- When a tool can't confirm part of a result, it says so. Read those notes before relying on the file.
Redaction, signatures and archival files
- Redact PDF removes only the areas you mark. Check every page of the redacted copy, and remember that information may appear elsewhere in the file, for example in metadata or attachments.
- Changing a digitally signed PDF invalidates its signature. Changing a PDF/A file can remove its PDF/A identification, and PDF/A conformance isn't validated.
Always keep your original
The tools never change your original file; they create a new copy. Keep the original, and review important copies before you share them or rely on them.
